EXCELLENT Based on 26 reviews Posted on Google Nick Addison Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Derek has looked after our dog for us a couple of times now and he is our go-to person for walking, feeding and company for Scooby. He can always be relied on to arrive at the scheduled times, sending photos, videos and short notes every time which have been a huge comfort while we have been away. Highly recommended

Thank you Nick for taking the time to write a review about my dog walking services - I appreciate it. Scooby is a truly unique dog with a unique and endearing personality. I'm constantly amazed by how he negotiates life with such joy and enthusiasm and a love of all people and dogs. Then when you take into account that he's deaf - you realise that he truly has a wonderful indomitable spirit and serves as an example to we mere humans as to how to enjoy life in the face of adversity. Oh and I almost forgot to say that I noticed whilst on my walks with him that he has another ability - to make people smile! Who wouldn't love a dog like Scooby!? Posted on Google Maddy Macdonald Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Theo, our lively cavapoo loves Derek!
We have never had a dog walker before and didn't want Theo to be 'just one of many' on walks with multiple dogs. Derek came to meet Theo first at home which was great and helped us feel more confident.
He is always very responsive and has helped us out last minute at times. The K9 app works really well for booking and reports on the walks too. Cannot recommend highly enough

Thank you Maddy for your appreciation of my dog walking service and in particular caring for Theo, your gorgeous Cavapoo. You could say Theo is a great crowd pleaser when I take him for our walks in the Botanical Gardens. It's wonderful to see peoples' faces light up with broad smiles when they see Theo coming towards them - such is his remarkable presence and his joie de vivre - so infectious! I have no doubt that much of his joy stems from the way you and Mike have treated him since you became his proud pet parents! For my part I just adore him and always look forward to our walks together. Posted on Google Grace Quant Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Derek is so kind and caring and really takes his time with my nervous dog. I would highly recommend his service

Thank you Grace. I hadn't looked after a Shih-Poo before although I had cared for one of your neighbour's Cavapoos-Theo. Bella was a little bit shy on our first meeting though she quickly responded to my massages everytime I arrived to take her for a walk to the Botanical Gardens. I love that she always seems to know its me entering your home and just lies there on her back waiting for my cuddles. I really look forward to going on walks with her and letting her sniff her way round the Botanical Gardens. The fact that Bella is so loving and affectionate is a tribute to the way you and your partner love and care for her and I am delighted and feel very proud that you have chosen me to look after her. Posted on Google Jennifer Henderson Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Derek has walked both my rescue dogs, the most recent arriving just over a week ago. He's been invaluable in helping my new little one settle in with gentle walkies and kindness - even dealing with house training accidents.

Thank you Jennifer. Of course I'm delighted Josh loves me especially since the feeling is mutual. Bearing in mind his background it's truly remarkable that Josh can love. Josh personifies the old adage that love conquers all and I feel sure that the love you have given him has enabled Josh to become the adorable and loving Cocker Spaniel he now is. Josh is a joy to walk and always gives me such a warm welcome with his twirls and fetching me his toy - a truly amazing and loving dog. Posted on Google Anne Dargue Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Derek is reliable and trustworthy . Easy to book and pay online. Takes great care of our dog both with cuddles, walks, feeding and toileting. Flexible with timings of visits whether it's a lunch time walk while I'm at work or away for the whole day for a family wedding. Our dog loves his time with Derek and we can relax knowing he's in safe hands. One on one care from Derek since he's been a puppy. Derek takes and shares many great photos and videos so I can see how happy my pooch is while I'm not around. Derek is very experienced - would recommend for any age of dog.

Thank you so much Anne for trusting me to look after Ridley. I had never met a Miniature Labradoodle before and was excited to meet him. I was absolutely bowled over by his cuter than cute appearance and endearing behaviour. Of course as well as being sooo cute he's a wonderful guard dog. When I open your front door he immediately goes on guard growling and barking until he sees me then suddenly his barking stops and all he wants is love - lots of it! I find it difficult to resist taking lots of pictures and videos of him at home and as we walk through the nearby woods. And of course should we met anyone on our walk they fall in love with Ridley immediately. I always find you a pleasure to deal with and look forward to going on many more walks with the ridiculously handsome Ridley! Posted on Google Jac Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. 100% reliable. My doodle is visibly excited as soon as Derek arrives. Even if I am at home, my dog happily trots off for his walk with Derek. He’s also a fountain of knowledge and ideas. Would highly recommend.

Thank you Jacqui. I can't tell you how much I look forward to going on walks with Bolt, your loving and always smiling Goldendoodle. Bolt is a peculiar dog in the nicest possible way. For instance he's the only dog I walk that bears his teeth at me when I arrive to take him out. I quickly realised that unlike other dogs that bear their teeth aggressively Bolt was mimicking me smiling at him because I am always so pleased to see him. Then after smiling at me he promptly lies on his back on your pouffe for his 5 minute massage before we set of on another quest to find people and dogs - such is his insatiable appetite for making new friends. Should a car pull up Bolt is always there waiting to greet the occupants as they get out of the car! Bolt's owner, Jacqui is a joy to deal with and as you'd expect has a great sense of humour just like Bolt! Posted on Google Jan Wright Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Excellent service from Derek. We got regular updates and lovely videos of our cat Minnie. Derek is caring and spends time fussing over Minnie who clearly loved it! Highly recommend.

Thank you Jan for your kind words. Minnie is a really affectionate and beautiful cat and after I've fed and watered her and cleaned her litter I like nothing better than to invite her to lie on my chest and stroke her. Judging by her contented purrs she really appreciates this and I'm pleased that I can bring her some comfort whilst you're on holiday. Posted on Google Helen Taylor Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Derek provides an excellent, caring service and clearly loves animals. My 2 dogs have very different walking styles and one can be dog reactive at times. Derek did an initial visit to meet the dogs and learn all about them, which was very reassuring. I felt very confident that he understood their needs and would be able to manage them in a caring and competent manner. Both dogs were very pleased to see him each morning for their walks and he sent photos and videos showing the great time they were having. I can certainly recommend him to anyone needing help with their pets!

When you want to find a cat sitter in Whirlow, Sheffield, I am Derek Collinson, owner of K9 Time. I provide professional in-home cat sitting visits so your cat never has to leave the comfort and safety of home.
With more than 40 years of cat care experience, I offer a trusted cat sitting service built around your cat’s individual routine, personality, and needs. As a local cat sitter covering Whirlow and the surrounding areas of south-west Sheffield, I understand that cats thrive in familiar surroundings. In-Home Cat Visits In Whirlow With K9 Time
What A Cat Sitting Visit Includes
Each cat sitting visit is tailored to your cat’s specific needs and daily habits. A typical drop-in visit covers:
Feeding and providing fresh water
Cleaning and replenishing the litter tray
Playtime and interactive engagement
Cuddles, fuss, and companionship
Daily updates with photos, videos, and notes via the free app
These are not rushed welfare checks. Every visit is structured to maintain your cat’s normal routine as closely as possible, keeping mealtimes, play sessions, and quiet time consistent with what your cat expects.
Why Home Visits Suit Most Cats Better Than Cat Boarding
Cats are territorial creatures. Removing them from their home and placing them in an unfamiliar environment, surrounded by strange smells and other animals, can cause significant stress. In-home cat sitting removes that disruption entirely.
Your cat stays where they feel safest. Their favourite sleeping spots, scratching posts, and hiding places remain exactly where they should be. There is no travel anxiety, no adjustment period, and no exposure to illness from other animals in a shared facility.
For feline care that prioritises wellbeing, keeping your cat at home is almost always the better choice. While dog boarding works for some animals, most cats prefer their own territory.
Support For Shy, Nervous, And Routine-Led Cats
Many cats I care for in Whirlow are naturally cautious or anxious, especially when their owner is away. This is where my background as a Certified Third Degree Master Practitioner in the Usui system of Reiki healing makes a genuine difference.
Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive holistic practice that promotes calm and relaxation. I bring this energy into every visit, creating a peaceful atmosphere that helps nervous cats settle rather than hide. There is no forcing interaction. I let shy cats approach in their own time, sitting quietly and allowing them to feel safe.
For routine-led cats, I follow your exact schedule. Same feeding times, same play patterns, same quiet periods. Consistency is the foundation of stress-free cat care.
Cat Sitting Prices And Visit Options
My cat sitting service in Whirlow is available in two visit lengths, with a typical twice-daily schedule to keep your cat well looked after throughout the day.
Visit Length | Price Per Visit |
|---|---|
15 minutes | £14 |
30 minutes | £20 |
15-Minute Cat Sitting Visits
A 15-minute drop-in visit at £14 covers the essentials: feeding, fresh water, litter tray cleaning, and a quick check that your cat is happy and healthy. This option suits confident, independent cats who need reliable care without lengthy interaction.
30-Minute Cat Sitting Visits
At £20 per visit, the 30-minute option allows more time for playtime, companionship, and thorough photo updates. This is ideal for cats who crave attention or who benefit from a longer, calmer presence in the home. It also gives me time to handle any additional tasks like plant watering or collecting post.
Typical Twice-Daily Visit Schedule
Most cat owners in Whirlow book two visits per day. This ensures your cat receives regular meals, clean water, a fresh litter tray, and consistent human contact throughout the day.
To book your visits or arrange a free 30-minute meet and greet with no obligation, get in touch with me directly. I am happy to have a friendly chat about your cat’s needs and put together a schedule that fits perfectly.
Why Owners In Whirlow Trust Derek Collinson
40+ Years Of Cat Care Experience
I have spent more than 40 years working with animals, building a depth of knowledge that covers every temperament and situation. From kittens experiencing their first time without an owner to elderly cats with specific health needs, my experience means I can adapt quickly and confidently to whatever your cat requires.
This is not a side project. Alongside cat care, I also provide professional dog walking, and that experience shows in the quality of care your cat receives.
DBS Checked, Fully Insured, And NarpsUK Member
Trust matters when you are handing over your house keys and the care of your cat. I am fully DBS checked, giving you confidence that a vetted professional is entering your home. Comprehensive pet insurance covers every visit, protecting both your pet and your property.
My membership with NarpsUK, the National Association of Registered Pet Sitters, reflects my commitment to professional standards within the pet sitting industry. When looking for registered pet sitters, these credentials separate professional care from informal arrangements.
A Calm, Holistic Approach For Anxious Cats
As a Certified Third Degree Master Practitioner in the Usui system of Reiki healing, I bring something genuinely different to feline care. Many cats become anxious or withdrawn when their owner travels. Traditional pet sitting addresses the practical needs but can overlook the emotional ones.
My Reiki training allows me to create a calm, soothing presence during visits. Anxious cats often respond positively to this gentle energy, gradually coming out of hiding and relaxing. There is no pressure, no loud movements, and no forced handling. Just patient, quiet companionship that helps your cat feel safe until you return.
This holistic approach is particularly valuable for rescue cats, elderly cats, and those with a history of nervousness around new people.
Updates, Home Security, And Peace Of Mind While You Are Away
App Updates With Photos, Videos, And Notes
Every visit includes a detailed update sent directly to your phone through a free mobile app. You will receive photos of your cat, short video clips, and written notes about how the visit went, what your cat ate, and how they seemed.
These daily updates with photos mean you are never left wondering. Whether you are on holiday or away for work, you stay connected to your cat without needing to chase me for information. The updates arrive automatically after each visit.
Mail Collection, Plant Watering, And Rubbish Taken Out
An empty-looking home can attract unwanted attention. As part of my pet sitting visits, I also help keep your property looking lived-in. This includes:
Collecting post and parcels from the doormat
Watering indoor and outdoor plants
Taking out the rubbish on collection days
These small but practical tasks add a genuine layer of home security. My house sitting style of care means you don’t need a live-in house sitter to keep your property looking lived-in while you are away.
How The Free Meet And Greet Helps Me Learn Your Cat’s Routine
Before any cat sitting booking begins, I offer a free 30-minute meet and greet at your home. This is an essential first step for several reasons.
It gives me the chance to meet your cat on their own territory, observe their behaviour, and note any quirks or preferences. Cats are creatures of habit, so I ask about feeding times, favourite spots, toy preferences, and any triggers that cause stress.
The meet and greet also lets your cat become familiar with my scent and presence before the actual visits start. A shy cat who has already encountered me once will be far more relaxed when I arrive for the first real visit. There is no obligation attached, and it costs nothing.

Holiday periods, school half terms, and bank holiday weekends fill up quickly. If you know your travel dates, I recommend booking your free meet and greet as early as possible to secure your preferred visit times.
Contact me for a friendly, no-obligation chat about your cat’s needs and my availability. Whether you need a single weekend of cover or several weeks of daily visits, I will work with you to find a schedule that suits both you and your cat.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much should I expect to pay for a cat sitter per visit?
At K9 Time, cat sitting visits in Whirlow start at £14 for a 15-minute visit and £20 for a 30-minute visit. Prices vary across the industry depending on location, experience, and the level of care included. My rates reflect fully insured, DBS-checked, professional care with photo and video updates after every visit.
What is a fair daily rate for looking after a cat while I’m away?
Most cat owners in Whirlow book two visits per day, which works out at £28 per day for two 15-minute visits or £40 per day for two 30-minute visits. This covers all feeding, litter tray cleaning, companionship, and app updates. The daily cost depends on the frequency your pet needs. Many of my clients also use my dog walking services for their other pets while they are at work.
Do cat sitters usually charge per hour, per visit, or per day?
Most professional cat sitters, including myself, charge per visit rather than per hour or per day. This keeps pricing transparent and straightforward. Each visit has a set duration and a fixed price. This is often more cost-effective than traditional cat boarding, especially for multi-cat households.
What services are typically included in a standard cat-sitting visit?
A standard cat sitting visit with K9 Time includes feeding, providing fresh water, litter tray cleaning and replenishing, playtime, cuddles, and attention. Every visit also includes photo and video updates sent via the free app. Additional practical help such as collecting mail, watering plants, and taking out the rubbish is included at no extra cost.
What are the main red flags to watch out for when hiring a pet sitter?
Be cautious of any pet sitter who does not offer a meet and greet, cannot provide proof of insurance, or avoids questions about DBS checks. A lack of reviews, no professional memberships, and reluctance to share references are also warning signs. A trusted cat sitter should be fully transparent about their credentials. While some apps use a Rover guarantee, choosing a local independent professional ensures direct accountability and dedicated feline care.
How can I check a cat sitter’s reviews, insurance, and references before booking?
Ask directly for proof of insurance, DBS check documentation, and details of any professional memberships such as NarpsUK. I am happy to provide all of these. Reading reviews from other local cat owners is also valuable. The free meet and greet is your best opportunity to ask questions, see how your cat reacts, and judge whether the sitter is the right fit.
