EXCELLENT Based on 26 reviews Posted on Google Nick AddisonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Derek has looked after our dog for us a couple of times now and he is our go-to person for walking, feeding and company for Scooby. He can always be relied on to arrive at the scheduled times, sending photos, videos and short notes every time which have been a huge comfort while we have been away. Highly recommended

Thank you Nick for taking the time to write a review about my dog walking services - I appreciate it. Scooby is a truly unique dog with a unique and endearing personality. I'm constantly amazed by how he negotiates life with such joy and enthusiasm and a love of all people and dogs. Then when you take into account that he's deaf - you realise that he truly has a wonderful indomitable spirit and serves as an example to we mere humans as to how to enjoy life in the face of adversity. Oh and I almost forgot to say that I noticed whilst on my walks with him that he has another ability - to make people smile! Who wouldn't love a dog like Scooby!?Posted on Google Maddy MacdonaldTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Theo, our lively cavapoo loves Derek! We have never had a dog walker before and didn't want Theo to be 'just one of many' on walks with multiple dogs. Derek came to meet Theo first at home which was great and helped us feel more confident. He is always very responsive and has helped us out last minute at times. The K9 app works really well for booking and reports on the walks too. Cannot recommend highly enough

Thank you Maddy for your appreciation of my dog walking service and in particular caring for Theo, your gorgeous Cavapoo. You could say Theo is a great crowd pleaser when I take him for our walks in the Botanical Gardens. It's wonderful to see peoples' faces light up with broad smiles when they see Theo coming towards them - such is his remarkable presence and his joie de vivre - so infectious! I have no doubt that much of his joy stems from the way you and Mike have treated him since you became his proud pet parents! For my part I just adore him and always look forward to our walks together.Posted on Google Grace QuantTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Derek is so kind and caring and really takes his time with my nervous dog. I would highly recommend his service
Owner's reply
Thank you Grace. I hadn't looked after a Shih-Poo before although I had cared for one of your neighbour's Cavapoos-Theo. Bella was a little bit shy on our first meeting though she quickly responded to my massages everytime I arrived to take her for a walk to the Botanical Gardens. I love that she always seems to know its me entering your home and just lies there on her back waiting for my cuddles. I really look forward to going on walks with her and letting her sniff her way round the Botanical Gardens. The fact that Bella is so loving and affectionate is a tribute to the way you and your partner love and care for her and I am delighted and feel very proud that you have chosen me to look after her.Posted on Google Jennifer HendersonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Derek has walked both my rescue dogs, the most recent arriving just over a week ago. He's been invaluable in helping my new little one settle in with gentle walkies and kindness - even dealing with house training accidents.
Owner's reply
Thank you Jennifer. Of course I'm delighted Josh loves me especially since the feeling is mutual. Bearing in mind his background it's truly remarkable that Josh can love. Josh personifies the old adage that love conquers all and I feel sure that the love you have given him has enabled Josh to become the adorable and loving Cocker Spaniel he now is. Josh is a joy to walk and always gives me such a warm welcome with his twirls and fetching me his toy - a truly amazing and loving dog.Posted on Google Anne DargueTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Derek is reliable and trustworthy . Easy to book and pay online. Takes great care of our dog both with cuddles, walks, feeding and toileting. Flexible with timings of visits whether it's a lunch time walk while I'm at work or away for the whole day for a family wedding. Our dog loves his time with Derek and we can relax knowing he's in safe hands. One on one care from Derek since he's been a puppy. Derek takes and shares many great photos and videos so I can see how happy my pooch is while I'm not around. Derek is very experienced - would recommend for any age of dog.

Thank you so much Anne for trusting me to look after Ridley. I had never met a Miniature Labradoodle before and was excited to meet him. I was absolutely bowled over by his cuter than cute appearance and endearing behaviour. Of course as well as being sooo cute he's a wonderful guard dog. When I open your front door he immediately goes on guard growling and barking until he sees me then suddenly his barking stops and all he wants is love - lots of it! I find it difficult to resist taking lots of pictures and videos of him at home and as we walk through the nearby woods. And of course should we met anyone on our walk they fall in love with Ridley immediately. I always find you a pleasure to deal with and look forward to going on many more walks with the ridiculously handsome Ridley!Posted on Google JacTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. 100% reliable. My doodle is visibly excited as soon as Derek arrives. Even if I am at home, my dog happily trots off for his walk with Derek. He’s also a fountain of knowledge and ideas. Would highly recommend.
Owner's reply
Thank you Jacqui. I can't tell you how much I look forward to going on walks with Bolt, your loving and always smiling Goldendoodle. Bolt is a peculiar dog in the nicest possible way. For instance he's the only dog I walk that bears his teeth at me when I arrive to take him out. I quickly realised that unlike other dogs that bear their teeth aggressively Bolt was mimicking me smiling at him because I am always so pleased to see him. Then after smiling at me he promptly lies on his back on your pouffe for his 5 minute massage before we set of on another quest to find people and dogs - such is his insatiable appetite for making new friends. Should a car pull up Bolt is always there waiting to greet the occupants as they get out of the car! Bolt's owner, Jacqui is a joy to deal with and as you'd expect has a great sense of humour just like Bolt!Posted on Google Jan WrightTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Excellent service from Derek. We got regular updates and lovely videos of our cat Minnie. Derek is caring and spends time fussing over Minnie who clearly loved it! Highly recommend.
Owner's reply
Thank you Jan for your kind words. Minnie is a really affectionate and beautiful cat and after I've fed and watered her and cleaned her litter I like nothing better than to invite her to lie on my chest and stroke her. Judging by her contented purrs she really appreciates this and I'm pleased that I can bring her some comfort whilst you're on holiday.Posted on Google Erica BradleyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. He always sends pictures and communicates promptly. Would not hesitate to recommend him. Erica

Thank you Anka for trusting me to take Alma for walks. It's a real pleasure walking Alma. She is such a sweet natured Cocker Spaniel. And I always look forward to receiving a warm welcome from her when I arrive to take her for her walk.Posted on Google Helen TaylorTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Derek provides an excellent, caring service and clearly loves animals. My 2 dogs have very different walking styles and one can be dog reactive at times. Derek did an initial visit to meet the dogs and learn all about them, which was very reassuring. I felt very confident that he understood their needs and would be able to manage them in a caring and competent manner. Both dogs were very pleased to see him each morning for their walks and he sent photos and videos showing the great time they were having. I can certainly recommend him to anyone needing help with their pets!

If you are looking for a cat sitter Broomhall pet owners can depend on, I would love to help. I am Derek Collinson, owner of K9 Time. As an experienced dog walker and cat sitter Broomhall families trust, I provide professional in-home cat sitting visits across the local area. My pet sitting ensures your feline friends stay comfortable in their familiar environment.
I visit homes ranging from the grand Victorian villas to the properties near the University. With more than 40 years of hands-on cat care experience, I offer a calm, personalised service that keeps your cat happy and settled in their own home.
My approach to home cat sitting is simple. Every visit is built around your cat’s existing routine, from feeding times and fresh water to litter tray care, playtime, and plenty of fuss. I work one-to-one, so your cat gets my full attention each time I visit.
As a local cat sitter, I know that cats thrive in familiar surroundings. That is why I come to your home rather than moving your cat to an unfamiliar environment. You will receive photo and video updates through a free mobile app after every visit, giving you complete peace of mind wherever you are.
Why Choose K9 Time For Cat Care In Broomhall, Sheffield
A Premium Alternative To A Cattery
Cats are territorial creatures. Being moved to an unfamiliar cattery, surrounded by strange sounds, smells, and other animals, can be deeply stressful. My pet sitting service removes that problem entirely by keeping your cat in their preferred territory.
I visit your cat in their own home, where they feel safe and in control. Their favourite sleeping spot, their scratching post, the windowsill they watch the birds from; everything stays exactly as they know it. This makes my in-home cat sitting a premium, stress-free alternative that keeps your cat calm and content.
40+ Years Of Cat Care Experience With Calm, One-To-One Support
I have been caring for cats for more than 40 years. My background as a dog walker and cat sitter means I can read body language effectively. I recognise signs of stress and adjust my approach to suit each individual personality.
Some cats greet you at the door. Others hide under the bed for the first few visits. I understand both responses and know how to build trust at a pace that works for your cat. Every visit is one-to-one, so there are no distractions and no rushing.
How Reiki Helps Nervous, Reactive, Or Senior Cats Settle
I am a certified Third Degree Master Practitioner in the Usui system of Reiki healing. This is not something you will find with most local cat sitters, and it makes a real difference for cats who are anxious, reactive, or elderly.
Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive energy healing practice. I do not need to touch your cat for it to help. Simply being in a calm, balanced energy state can help a nervous cat relax more quickly during visits. Senior cats with joint discomfort or general stiffness often seem more at ease too. It is a quiet, natural complement to the practical care I provide.
Cat Sitting Visits And Prices
I offer two visit lengths for my cat sitting service, each designed to cover everything your cat needs.
Visit Length | Price |
|---|---|
15-minute visit | £14 |
30-minute visit | £20 |
Most cats do well with two visits per day. I am happy to discuss the right schedule for your cat during our free 30-minute meet and greet, with no obligation.
What Is Included In Every 15-Minute Visit
A 15-minute visit covers all the essentials. I will feed your cat, provide fresh water, clean and replenish the litter tray, and give them some company and attention. You will also receive photo updates and a short video through the free app.
This visit suits cats who are independent and settled in their routine. If your cat is happy with a quick check-in, a 15-minute visit twice daily keeps everything running smoothly.
When A 30-Minute Visit Is The Better Choice
A 30-minute visit gives me more time for interactive play, extended cuddles, and a thorough check of your home. This is ideal for cats who crave company, for kittens with extra energy, or for senior cats who benefit from a longer, calmer presence.
If your cat needs medication administered or has specific dietary needs that take a little longer, the 30-minute visit is the better option. It also allows more time for home security tasks like bringing in the post or watering plants.
Typical Two-Visit Daily Routine For Cats
Most cat owners book two visits per day while they are away. A typical routine might look like this:
Morning visit: Breakfast, fresh water, litter tray clean, a check around the home, and some fuss
Evening visit: Dinner, water top-up, litter tray clean, playtime or cuddles, and a final check of the property
I will tailor the exact timing and tasks to match your cat’s normal routine. As a pet sitter, my goal is to keep everything as familiar as possible. Quality pet sitting relies on consistency and trust.
What Happens During Each Home Visit
Feeding, Fresh Water, And Litter Tray Care
Every visit starts with the basics your cat depends on. I follow your feeding instructions exactly, whether that is wet food, dry food, or a combination at specific times. Water bowls are emptied, cleaned, and refilled with fresh water.
Litter trays are scooped, cleaned, and replenished as needed. If your cat uses multiple trays, I will take care of each one. These small details matter and keep your cat comfortable throughout your time away.
Playtime, Company, And Routine-Led Visits
After the practical tasks, I spend time with your cat on their terms. Some cats want an energetic play session with their favourite toys. Others prefer a quiet lap sit or simply having someone nearby while they doze.
I follow your cat’s lead and your instructions. If your cat has a favourite game or a specific routine they enjoy, let me know at the meet and greet and I will make sure it happens at every visit.
Photo Updates And Videos Through The Free App
You will never have to wonder how your cat is doing. After every single visit, I send photo updates and short video clips through a free mobile app that you can download to your phone.
You can see your cat eating, playing, or lounging in their favourite spot. This is one of the things my clients value most about my in-home cat sitting service. It is real-time reassurance, delivered straight to your phone, wherever you are in the world.
Trust, Safety, And Peace Of Mind While You Are Away
Fully Insured, DBS And Police Checked, And NarpsUK Registered
Your trust matters to me, and I back it up with proper credentials. I am a fully insured dog walker and pet sitter, and I am also DBS and police checked. I am trained in dog first aid, which gives me a solid grounding in animal emergency response.
I am a registered member of NarpsUK, a national association for registered pet sitters in the United Kingdom. This membership reflects my commitment to professional standards as a dog walker and pet sitter. It gives you confidence that my pet sitting meets strict national guidelines.
Free Meet And Greet Before Your Booking Starts
Before any booking begins, I offer a free 30-minute meet and greet at your home, with absolutely no obligation. This gives me the chance to meet your cat, learn about their personality, and understand their routine.
It also gives you the chance to meet me, ask any questions, and feel confident about leaving your cat in my care. I will go through everything from feeding schedules and litter preferences to where you keep spare keys and how your cat reacts to visitors.
Helpful Home Security Extras During Visits
Regular visits to your home while you are away do more than keep your cat happy. They also help your property look lived-in, which is a genuine security benefit.
During each visit, I am happy to bring in the post, water your plants, and take out the rubbish. These small extras come as part of the service at no additional charge. It is one less thing to worry about while you are away.

Common Questions About Booking A Cat Sitter
How Far In Advance Should I Book?
I recommend booking at least two to three weeks ahead, especially during school holidays, bank holidays, and the summer season. Popular dates in Broomhall and across Sheffield fill up fast. The earlier you get in touch, the more likely I can secure your preferred visit times.
Can You Look After Shy, Elderly, Or Indoor Cats?
Absolutely. With over 40 years of cat care experience and my Reiki training, I am well-equipped to care for cats of all temperaments and ages. Shy cats benefit from my patient, gentle approach. Elderly cats appreciate the calm energy I bring to each visit. Indoor cats get the company and stimulation they need without any disruption to their safe environment.
Do You Offer Overnight Care Or Only Visits?
My pet sitting service is based on scheduled visits rather than overnight care. Most cats do very well with two visits per day, which keeps their routine intact and provides regular human contact. Cats are naturally independent and typically prefer staying in their own space overnight rather than having a stranger present through the night.
What Do You Need At The Meet And Greet?
During the free 30-minute meet and greet, I will need to know your cat’s feeding schedule, food preferences, litter tray routine, and any medical needs. I will also ask about their personality, favourite toys, and how they react to new people. Please have your keys ready to hand over and share any specific instructions for your home, such as alarm codes or bin collection days.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a cat sitter typically charge per hour in Broomhall?
My cat sitting visits at K9 Time are priced at £14 for a 15-minute visit and £20 for a 30-minute visit. Most cats in Broomhall do not need a full hour, so shorter, focused visits twice a day are the standard approach and keep costs manageable.
What is a reasonable daily rate to pay for cat sitting and home visits?
With two 30-minute visits per day, the daily cost with K9 Time is £40. If your cat is happy with shorter check-ins, two 15-minute visits come to £28 per day. The right option depends on your cat’s needs, which I will discuss with you at the free meet and greet.
Where can I find trustworthy reviews for local cat sitters in Broomhall?
You can look for reviews on trusted platforms and ask any potential cat sitter for references from existing clients. K9 Time is a registered member of NarpsUK and is listed on professional directories. I am always happy to answer questions about my experience and credentials before you commit.
What red flags should I look out for when choosing a pet sitter?
Be cautious of any dog walker or pet sitter who will not agree to a meet and greet. They should also provide proof of insurance and a valid DBS or police check. A lack of references, vague answers about their experience, and an unwillingness to send updates during visits are all warning signs. I provide all of these as standard.
What services are usually included in a cat sitting visit (feeding, litter, play, medication)?
A thorough cat sitting visit should include feeding, fresh water, litter tray cleaning, and some form of companionship or play. My visits also include photo and video updates through a free app, plus home security extras like collecting post and watering plants. If your cat needs medication, I can discuss this at the meet and greet.
How does the 3-3-3 rule help cats settle into a new home after a move?
The 3-3-3 rule suggests that a cat may take 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn your routine, and 3 months to feel fully at home. This is relevant to newly adopted cats or those adjusting after a house move. If you have recently moved to Broomhall and need a cat sitter, I will take your cat’s adjustment stage into account when planning my visits.
