EXCELLENT Based on 26 reviews Posted on Google Nick AddisonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Derek has looked after our dog for us a couple of times now and he is our go-to person for walking, feeding and company for Scooby. He can always be relied on to arrive at the scheduled times, sending photos, videos and short notes every time which have been a huge comfort while we have been away. Highly recommended

Thank you Nick for taking the time to write a review about my dog walking services - I appreciate it. Scooby is a truly unique dog with a unique and endearing personality. I'm constantly amazed by how he negotiates life with such joy and enthusiasm and a love of all people and dogs. Then when you take into account that he's deaf - you realise that he truly has a wonderful indomitable spirit and serves as an example to we mere humans as to how to enjoy life in the face of adversity. Oh and I almost forgot to say that I noticed whilst on my walks with him that he has another ability - to make people smile! Who wouldn't love a dog like Scooby!?Posted on Google Maddy MacdonaldTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Theo, our lively cavapoo loves Derek! We have never had a dog walker before and didn't want Theo to be 'just one of many' on walks with multiple dogs. Derek came to meet Theo first at home which was great and helped us feel more confident. He is always very responsive and has helped us out last minute at times. The K9 app works really well for booking and reports on the walks too. Cannot recommend highly enough

Thank you Maddy for your appreciation of my dog walking service and in particular caring for Theo, your gorgeous Cavapoo. You could say Theo is a great crowd pleaser when I take him for our walks in the Botanical Gardens. It's wonderful to see peoples' faces light up with broad smiles when they see Theo coming towards them - such is his remarkable presence and his joie de vivre - so infectious! I have no doubt that much of his joy stems from the way you and Mike have treated him since you became his proud pet parents! For my part I just adore him and always look forward to our walks together.Posted on Google Grace QuantTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Derek is so kind and caring and really takes his time with my nervous dog. I would highly recommend his service
Owner's reply
Thank you Grace. I hadn't looked after a Shih-Poo before although I had cared for one of your neighbour's Cavapoos-Theo. Bella was a little bit shy on our first meeting though she quickly responded to my massages everytime I arrived to take her for a walk to the Botanical Gardens. I love that she always seems to know its me entering your home and just lies there on her back waiting for my cuddles. I really look forward to going on walks with her and letting her sniff her way round the Botanical Gardens. The fact that Bella is so loving and affectionate is a tribute to the way you and your partner love and care for her and I am delighted and feel very proud that you have chosen me to look after her.Posted on Google Jennifer HendersonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Derek has walked both my rescue dogs, the most recent arriving just over a week ago. He's been invaluable in helping my new little one settle in with gentle walkies and kindness - even dealing with house training accidents.
Owner's reply
Thank you Jennifer. Of course I'm delighted Josh loves me especially since the feeling is mutual. Bearing in mind his background it's truly remarkable that Josh can love. Josh personifies the old adage that love conquers all and I feel sure that the love you have given him has enabled Josh to become the adorable and loving Cocker Spaniel he now is. Josh is a joy to walk and always gives me such a warm welcome with his twirls and fetching me his toy - a truly amazing and loving dog.Posted on Google Anne DargueTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Derek is reliable and trustworthy . Easy to book and pay online. Takes great care of our dog both with cuddles, walks, feeding and toileting. Flexible with timings of visits whether it's a lunch time walk while I'm at work or away for the whole day for a family wedding. Our dog loves his time with Derek and we can relax knowing he's in safe hands. One on one care from Derek since he's been a puppy. Derek takes and shares many great photos and videos so I can see how happy my pooch is while I'm not around. Derek is very experienced - would recommend for any age of dog.

Thank you so much Anne for trusting me to look after Ridley. I had never met a Miniature Labradoodle before and was excited to meet him. I was absolutely bowled over by his cuter than cute appearance and endearing behaviour. Of course as well as being sooo cute he's a wonderful guard dog. When I open your front door he immediately goes on guard growling and barking until he sees me then suddenly his barking stops and all he wants is love - lots of it! I find it difficult to resist taking lots of pictures and videos of him at home and as we walk through the nearby woods. And of course should we met anyone on our walk they fall in love with Ridley immediately. I always find you a pleasure to deal with and look forward to going on many more walks with the ridiculously handsome Ridley!Posted on Google JacTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. 100% reliable. My doodle is visibly excited as soon as Derek arrives. Even if I am at home, my dog happily trots off for his walk with Derek. He’s also a fountain of knowledge and ideas. Would highly recommend.
Owner's reply
Thank you Jacqui. I can't tell you how much I look forward to going on walks with Bolt, your loving and always smiling Goldendoodle. Bolt is a peculiar dog in the nicest possible way. For instance he's the only dog I walk that bears his teeth at me when I arrive to take him out. I quickly realised that unlike other dogs that bear their teeth aggressively Bolt was mimicking me smiling at him because I am always so pleased to see him. Then after smiling at me he promptly lies on his back on your pouffe for his 5 minute massage before we set of on another quest to find people and dogs - such is his insatiable appetite for making new friends. Should a car pull up Bolt is always there waiting to greet the occupants as they get out of the car! Bolt's owner, Jacqui is a joy to deal with and as you'd expect has a great sense of humour just like Bolt!Posted on Google Jan WrightTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Excellent service from Derek. We got regular updates and lovely videos of our cat Minnie. Derek is caring and spends time fussing over Minnie who clearly loved it! Highly recommend.
Owner's reply
Thank you Jan for your kind words. Minnie is a really affectionate and beautiful cat and after I've fed and watered her and cleaned her litter I like nothing better than to invite her to lie on my chest and stroke her. Judging by her contented purrs she really appreciates this and I'm pleased that I can bring her some comfort whilst you're on holiday.Posted on Google Erica BradleyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Thank you Anka for trusting me to take Alma for walks. It's a real pleasure walking Alma. She is such a sweet natured Cocker Spaniel. And I always look forward to receiving a warm welcome from her when I arrive to take her for her walk.Posted on Google Helen TaylorTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Derek provides an excellent, caring service and clearly loves animals. My 2 dogs have very different walking styles and one can be dog reactive at times. Derek did an initial visit to meet the dogs and learn all about them, which was very reassuring. I felt very confident that he understood their needs and would be able to manage them in a caring and competent manner. Both dogs were very pleased to see him each morning for their walks and he sent photos and videos showing the great time they were having. I can certainly recommend him to anyone needing help with their pets!

If you are searching for a cat sitter Totley residents can rely on, K9 Time provides professional pet sitting and in-home cat sitting visits. These sessions are designed to keep your cat relaxed, comfortable, and cared for in their own surroundings. I am Derek Collinson, owner of K9 Time, and I bring more than 40+ years of hands-on cat care experience to every visit.
Every cat I look after receives calm, one-to-one attention in their own home, which means no stressful car journeys, no unfamiliar environments, and no exposure to other animals. My approach is built around your cat’s existing routine, not mine.
As a Certified Third Degree Master Practitioner in the Usui system of Reiki healing, I carry a uniquely calm energy into every home I enter. This makes a real difference for cats who are shy, nervous, or settling into life after rescue. Cats pick up on energy quickly, and a gentle, unhurried presence helps them feel safe from the very first visit.
K9 Time is based right here in Totley and covers the S17 postcode along with surrounding areas of south-west Sheffield. A free meet and greet is always included before any booking. This allows you and your cat to get to know me with absolutely no obligation.
Why Choose K9 Time For In-Home Cat Care In Totley, Sheffield
Choosing a trusted pet sitter for your cat is a personal decision. As a verified pet sitter, I pride myself on providing high-quality pet sitting. Here is what sets K9 Time apart as your local pet sitter in Totley.
A Stress-Free Alternative To Catteries
Cats thrive on familiarity. The sights, smells, and sounds of their own home keep them settled in a way that no cattery can replicate. My in-home cat sitting service removes the stress of travel and unfamiliar enclosures entirely. Your cat stays exactly where they feel safest, sleeping in their favourite spot, eating from their own bowl, and following the routine they know.
Calm One-To-One Visits For Shy, Nervous, And Rescue Cats
Some cats take time to trust a new person. As a Certified Third Degree Master Practitioner in the Usui system of Reiki healing, I bring a naturally calm and grounded energy to every visit. Shy cats, nervous cats, and rescue cats respond well to this unhurried approach. Rather than forcing interaction, I let your cat set the pace, which helps them relax far more quickly than they might with a less experienced visitor.
40+ Years Of Experience
More than 40 years of caring for cats, horses and ponies and more than 25 years of caring for dogs, means I have encountered virtually every temperament and situation. That depth of experience gives pet owners real confidence when handing over their keys and their cat’s care.
DBS Check, Insurance, And NarpsUK Membership
I am fully insured, DBS checked, and a member of NarpsUK (the National Association of Registered Pet Sitters). I am also trained in dog first aid. These credentials exist to give you complete peace of mind that your cat is in the hands of a verified pet sitter.
Cat Sitting Prices And Visit Options
My pet sitting and cat sitting service in Totley is straightforward and transparent. There are no hidden fees, and pricing is per visit rather than per cat.
Visit Length | Price Per Visit |
|---|---|
15 minutes | £14 |
30 minutes | £20 |
15-Minute Cat Sitting Visits At £14
A 15-minute drop-in visit covers the essentials: feeding, fresh water, litter tray care, and a quick check that your cat is happy and well. This is ideal for independent cats who prefer a shorter, quieter visit.
30-Minute Cat Sitting Visits At £20
A 30-minute visit allows more time for interaction, playtime, and extra attention. For cats who enjoy company or need medication, this longer option gives me the space to be thorough without rushing.
Typical Two-Visit Daily Routine For Cats
Most cat owners opt for two visits per day, typically one in the morning and one in the evening. This keeps feeding times consistent and ensures your cat is checked on regularly. Visit schedules are always arranged around your cat’s normal routine, not a fixed timetable.
To book your visits or arrange a free meet and greet with no obligation, give me a call for a friendly chat about your cat’s needs.
What Is Included In Each Visit
Every cat sitting visit follows a consistent routine tailored to your cat’s individual needs. Here is exactly what each visit covers.
Feeding, Fresh Water, And Litter Tray Care
I follow your feeding instructions precisely, whether that involves wet food, dry food, a specific brand, or measured portions. Fresh water is provided at every visit. Litter trays are cleaned, replenished, and left tidy. If your cat has any dietary requirements or medication, these are handled with care and attention to detail.
Playtime, Cuddles, And Routine-Led Cat Care
Some cats want a lap and a fuss. Others prefer a wand toy or simply to observe from a distance. My approach is led entirely by your cat’s personality and preferences. The calm energy I bring as a Reiki Master Practitioner helps even the most cautious cats feel at ease over time. Every visit respects your cat’s boundaries while still providing genuine companionship.
Photos And Videos Through The App After Each Visit
After each visit, I send photos and videos directly to your phone through a free mobile app. You will also receive a visit report so you know exactly what happened, what your cat ate, and how they seemed. This level of detail gives you real peace of mind, whether you are on a short work trip or a longer holiday.
Free Meet And Greet And How Booking Works
Your Free Meet And Greet
Every new client starts with a free meet and greet at your home. This is a chance for me to meet your cat in their own environment and learn about their personality. There is no obligation whatsoever. If your cat is shy, this first meeting helps build familiarity so that when the actual visits begin, my arrival is already something they recognise.
Sharing Your Cat’s Routine And Home Instructions
During the free meet and greet, I take detailed notes about your cat’s feeding times, food preferences, and litter tray location. I also note favourite spots, any medical needs, and general temperament. I also collect practical information such as key arrangements, alarm codes, bin collection days, and any home care tasks you would like me to handle. Nothing is left to guesswork.
Booking Early For Holidays And Busy Travel Periods
School holidays, Christmas, Easter, and summer are the busiest periods for cat sitters in Totley and across Sheffield. I always recommend booking as early as possible during these times to secure your preferred dates. For regular clients, recurring bookings can be arranged well in advance to guarantee availability.

When To Ask About Availability Outside Totley
If your home falls just outside the postcodes listed above, it is still worth getting in touch. Depending on my schedule and route for the day, I may be able to accommodate nearby areas. A quick call is the easiest way to check.
Extra Help While You Are Away
Collecting Mail, Watering Plants, And Taking Out Rubbish
An overflowing letterbox or wilting plants can signal an empty house. During each visit, I collect your post, water houseplants, and take out the rubbish on collection days. These small tasks protect your home and give you one less thing to worry about while you are away.
Keeping Your Home Looking Lived-In
Regular visits at consistent times help your property appear occupied. Curtains can be adjusted, lights switched on or off, and bins put out and brought back in. This added layer of home security is a genuine benefit of in-home cat sitting compared to leaving your home completely unattended.
Support For Multi-Pet Households Including Dog And Cat Visits
If you have both cats and dogs at home, I can combine visits to cover all of your pets in a single trip. I can act as a dog sitter for home visits alongside cat sitting. Many owners find this more convenient than traditional dog boarding services. Each pet receives the care and attention they need according to their own routine. There is no need to arrange separate pet sitters for different animals.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a cat sitter typically charge per hour?
Cat sitting is usually charged per visit rather than per hour. At K9 Time, a 15-minute visit costs £14 and a 30-minute visit costs £20. Most local cat sitters in Totley and Sheffield charge somewhere in this range, though prices vary depending on visit length and the sitter’s experience and credentials.
How much should I pay someone to look after my cat for four days?
With two visits per day at 30 minutes each, four days of cat sitting with K9 Time would cost £160. If shorter 15-minute visits suit your cat better, the total would be £112 for the same period. The exact cost depends on how many daily visits your cat needs.
What should I look for in a reliable cat sitter, and how can I check their reviews?
Look for a cat sitter who is fully insured, DBS checked, and a member of a recognised professional body such as NarpsUK. Ask about their experience with cats specifically, and request a meet and greet before committing. Reviews can often be found on platforms such as Google, Facebook, and local business directories.
Where can I find local cat sitting work and what experience is usually required?
Local cat sitting positions are often advertised on pet care platforms, community noticeboards, and social media groups. Most professional cat sitting services look for candidates with genuine experience handling cats, relevant insurance, and ideally a DBS check. First aid training and membership of a body like NarpsUK strengthen any application.
What age do you need to be to work as a cat sitter?
There is no specific legal minimum age for cat sitting in the UK, but most professional services and insurance providers require sitters to be at least 18. Younger individuals may gain experience by helping family or friends with their pets before pursuing professional work.
What are the warning signs of serious illness in cats that need urgent veterinary care?
Signs that require immediate veterinary attention include difficulty breathing, repeated vomiting or diarrhoea, sudden collapse, refusal to eat or drink for more than 24 hours, straining in the litter tray without producing anything, and visible signs of pain such as hiding or vocalising. During my visits, I monitor your cat closely and would contact you and your vet without delay if anything seemed wrong.
