Puppy Sitter Sheffield For Safe In-Home Care
Leaving a new puppy at home can feel overwhelming. They need regular check-ins, toilet breaks, and extra attention to feel safe. If you’re looking for a puppy sitter in Sheffield, K9 Time offers dedicated in-home care tailored to your puppy’s routine.
My clients describe me as ‘incredibly kind and compassionate’ with their puppies. With over 25 years of experience, I know how to build a solid relationship with your pup from day one, giving you complete peace of mind while you work.
Finding a trusted puppy sitter in Sheffield during those first fragile weeks is one of the most important decisions you will make for your new arrival. At K9 Time, we provide dedicated in-home puppy sitting visits across Sheffield, giving young puppies the consistent care, stimulation, and company they need while you are away.
Our visits are built entirely around your puppy’s existing routine, so feeds happen on time, toilet breaks are regular, and playtime happens in the comfort of your own home and garden.
Derek Collinson has more than 25 years of pet care experience and leads every aspect of the service personally. K9 Time is police checked, fully insured, and trained in dog first aid, offering Sheffield puppy owners genuine peace of mind from the very first visit.
We cover a wide range of Sheffield postcodes and neighbourhoods, and we always begin with a free 30-minute meet and greet so you can discuss your puppy’s needs before committing to anything.
What K9 Time’s Puppy Visits Include
- Feeding & Toilet Breaks: Arranged exactly around your puppy’s normal routine to reinforce good habits.
- Safe Socialisation & TLC: I don’t just pop in; I spend time playing with their favourite toys in the safety of your home and garden before they are ready for wider exposure to other dogs.
- Photo & Video Updates: I know you’ll be missing them! I send regular photos and video clips via a free app so you can see exactly how happy and settled they are.
Building a Lifelong Bond
Many of the dogs I walk today started with me as puppies. By starting with one-to-one in-home sitting, we build a foundation of trust. Even if your puppy is nervous, ‘woofy,’ or reactive, I go above and beyond to build a relationship with them. By the time they are ready for full walks, they will be ‘visibly excited’ when my car pulls up!”
Puppy Sitting Prices And Visit Options In Sheffield
Our puppy sitting pricing is straightforward and transparent, with two visit lengths designed to suit different stages of your puppy’s day.
| Visit Length | Price |
|---|---|
| 15 minutes | £14 |
| 30 minutes | £20 |
£14 For 15 Minutes
The 15-minute visit covers a focused check-in, including feeding, fresh water, a toilet break, and a brief round of play. It suits moments in the day when your puppy needs attention but not an extended session.
£20 For A Half Hour Visit
The half-hour visit gives more time for active play, garden time, and a proper settle before you leave. For younger puppies in particular, this length allows a thorough visit without overstimulating them.
How Often Young Puppies May Need Visits
Puppies under four months should not be left alone for more than two hours at a stretch. Depending on your working hours, most owners arrange multiple visits throughout the day to keep this within safe limits. We are happy to discuss what a realistic visit schedule looks like for your puppy’s age and routine during the free meet and greet.
To arrange puppy care or ask about availability, call Derek directly for a no-obligation chat about your puppy’s needs.
Why In-Home Care Works Better For Young Puppies
Keeping a young puppy in their own home, with a consistent and familiar sitter visiting regularly, is genuinely different from placing them in an unfamiliar setting. The environment itself becomes part of the care.
Support For Puppies Up To 16 Weeks
Our puppy sitting service is specifically designed for puppies up to 16 weeks old. This is a particularly sensitive developmental window, and the care a puppy receives during this period has a lasting effect on their confidence and behaviour.
Pre-Vaccination Safety And Early Socialisation
Before completing their vaccination course, puppies cannot safely mix with unknown dogs or unfamiliar outdoor environments. In-home visits allow us to provide age-appropriate socialisation and stimulation within a space that is already safe and familiar, without exposing your puppy to unnecessary risk.
Why Puppies Under Four Months Should Not Be Left Alone For More Than Two Hours
Leaving a young puppy alone for extended periods increases the risk of separation anxiety, toileting accidents, and distress. The two-hour guideline for puppies under four months exists for real developmental reasons. Regular in-home visits from a familiar, trusted pet sitter help prevent those long stretches of solitude from becoming a pattern.
A Calm Alternative To Dog Boarding
Dog boarding places a young puppy into an unfamiliar home with unfamiliar people, smells, and sounds. For a puppy under 16 weeks, that can be genuinely unsettling. In-home dog sitting keeps everything consistent: the same furniture, the same garden, the same smells, with Derek arriving as a reassuring, familiar presence.
Why Sheffield Owners Choose K9 Time
25 Plus Years Of Pet Care Experience
Derek Collinson has been caring for pets for more than 25 years. That depth of experience means he reads puppy behaviour confidently, spots signs of stress or discomfort early, and adapts each visit to what the puppy actually needs on that day.
DBS Checked, Fully Insured And Trained In Dog First Aid
K9 Time is DBS checked, fully insured, and Derek holds dog first aid training. These are non-negotiable for anyone allowing a sitter into their home and trusting them with a young puppy. You can see these credentials before committing to a single visit.
One-To-One Care From Derek Collinson
Every puppy sitting visit is carried out personally by Derek. There are no junior staff or last-minute substitutions. That consistency matters for puppies, who benefit from building a relationship with one familiar carer rather than meeting someone new at every visit.
Free 30-Minute Meet And Greet
Before any visits begin, we offer a free 30-minute meet and greet with no obligation. This gives your puppy a chance to meet Derek in a relaxed setting, and gives you the opportunity to share your puppy’s routine, preferences, and any specific needs in detail.

How To Arrange Puppy Care With K9 Time
Book A Free Meet And Greet
The first step is booking a free 30-minute meet and greet with no obligation. This gives Derek the chance to meet your puppy at home and for you to ask any questions about how the visits will work.
Share Your Puppy’s Routine And Needs
During the meet and greet, we ask you to walk us through your puppy’s current routine: feeding times, toilet habits, favourite toys, any quirks or sensitivities, and what a typical morning or afternoon looks like. The more detail you share, the more closely we can mirror what your puppy already knows.
Set Up Regular Visits That Fit Your Schedule
Once we have a clear picture of your puppy’s needs, we arrange a visit schedule that fits your working hours and keeps your puppy within safe limits for time alone. Call Derek for a friendly, no-obligation chat to get started and check availability for your Sheffield address.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to hire a puppy sitter in Sheffield?
At K9 Time, puppy sitting visits cost £14 for 15 minutes or £20 for a half-hour visit. These rates are fixed, transparent, and cover everything included in the visit, such as feeding, playtime, toilet breaks, and app updates with photos and videos.
Are there any free or low-cost puppy sitting options locally?
Most professional, insured puppy sitters in Sheffield charge for their visits, and for good reason. K9 Time’s rates start at £14 per visit, and we offer a free 30-minute meet and greet before any paid visits begin so you can be confident in the care before you commit.
Can a puppy be looked after overnight, and what does that include?
K9 Time’s puppy sitting service is structured around regular daytime visits rather than overnight stays. Our visits are designed to keep your puppy’s daytime routine consistent, and we can discuss what frequency works best for your puppy’s age and stage during the initial meet and greet.
Is it safe and appropriate to leave a young puppy with a sitter?
In-home puppy sitting with a trusted, experienced sitter is one of the safest options for young puppies, particularly those under 16 weeks who have not yet completed their vaccinations. Derek is DBS checked, fully insured, and trained in dog first aid, so your puppy is in qualified hands at every visit.
What red flags should I look out for when choosing a pet sitter?
Avoid any sitter who cannot confirm insurance, a DBS check, or relevant first aid training. A sitter who is reluctant to carry out a meet and greet beforehand, or who cannot provide references or clear information about how visits are conducted, is worth approaching with caution.
What’s the difference between home boarding and in-home puppy sitting?
Home boarding moves your puppy into the sitter’s own property, while in-home puppy sitting means the sitter comes to your home. For young puppies in particular, staying in their own familiar environment is far less disruptive, supports toilet training, and removes the risk of exposure to unknown dogs or surroundings before vaccinations are complete.
Why Choose In-Home Sitting?
Your puppy stays in its familiar environment, reducing stress and separation anxiety. That means they’re more likely to keep their routine, sleep, eat and behave as they normally do .
Stress-Free Comfort
Better physical and mental wellbeing: until puppies have completed vaccinations they still need exercise and stimulation at home or in a secure garden; our puppy visits provide those necessary sessions twice a day if needed .
Age Appropriate Care
Age-appropriate care: we visit puppies up until 16 weeks to help socialise them safely before they meet other dogs and situations, following recommended timings for exposure after their jabs .
Short, Frequent Visits
Puppies under four months shouldn’t be left alone for longer than two hours — in‑home puppy sitting provides regular visits to prevent extended alone time thus reducing the risk of anxiety
EXCELLENT Based on 26 reviews Posted on Nick AddisonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Derek has looked after our dog for us a couple of times now and he is our go-to person for walking, feeding and company for Scooby. He can always be relied on to arrive at the scheduled times, sending photos, videos and short notes every time which have been a huge comfort while we have been away. Highly recommended
Owner's reply
Thank you Nick for taking the time to write a review about my dog walking services - I appreciate it. Scooby is a truly unique dog with a unique and endearing personality. I'm constantly amazed by how he negotiates life with such joy and enthusiasm and a love of all people and dogs. Then when you take into account that he's deaf - you realise that he truly has a wonderful indomitable spirit and serves as an example to we mere humans as to how to enjoy life in the face of adversity. Oh and I almost forgot to say that I noticed whilst on my walks with him that he has another ability - to make people smile! Who wouldn't love a dog like Scooby!?Posted on Maddy MacdonaldTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Theo, our lively cavapoo loves Derek! We have never had a dog walker before and didn't want Theo to be 'just one of many' on walks with multiple dogs. Derek came to meet Theo first at home which was great and helped us feel more confident. He is always very responsive and has helped us out last minute at times. The K9 app works really well for booking and reports on the walks too. Cannot recommend highly enough

Thank you Maddy for your appreciation of my dog walking service and in particular caring for Theo, your gorgeous Cavapoo. You could say Theo is a great crowd pleaser when I take him for our walks in the Botanical Gardens. It's wonderful to see peoples' faces light up with broad smiles when they see Theo coming towards them - such is his remarkable presence and his joie de vivre - so infectious! I have no doubt that much of his joy stems from the way you and Mike have treated him since you became his proud pet parents! For my part I just adore him and always look forward to our walks together.Posted on Grace QuantTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Derek is so kind and caring and really takes his time with my nervous dog. I would highly recommend his service
Owner's reply
Thank you Grace. I hadn't looked after a Shih-Poo before although I had cared for one of your neighbour's Cavapoos-Theo. Bella was a little bit shy on our first meeting though she quickly responded to my massages everytime I arrived to take her for a walk to the Botanical Gardens. I love that she always seems to know its me entering your home and just lies there on her back waiting for my cuddles. I really look forward to going on walks with her and letting her sniff her way round the Botanical Gardens. The fact that Bella is so loving and affectionate is a tribute to the way you and your partner love and care for her and I am delighted and feel very proud that you have chosen me to look after her.Posted on Jennifer HendersonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Derek has walked both my rescue dogs, the most recent arriving just over a week ago. He's been invaluable in helping my new little one settle in with gentle walkies and kindness - even dealing with house training accidents.
Owner's reply
Thank you Jennifer. Of course I'm delighted Josh loves me especially since the feeling is mutual. Bearing in mind his background it's truly remarkable that Josh can love. Josh personifies the old adage that love conquers all and I feel sure that the love you have given him has enabled Josh to become the adorable and loving Cocker Spaniel he now is. Josh is a joy to walk and always gives me such a warm welcome with his twirls and fetching me his toy - a truly amazing and loving dog.Posted on Anne DargueTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Derek is reliable and trustworthy . Easy to book and pay online. Takes great care of our dog both with cuddles, walks, feeding and toileting. Flexible with timings of visits whether it's a lunch time walk while I'm at work or away for the whole day for a family wedding. Our dog loves his time with Derek and we can relax knowing he's in safe hands. One on one care from Derek since he's been a puppy. Derek takes and shares many great photos and videos so I can see how happy my pooch is while I'm not around. Derek is very experienced - would recommend for any age of dog.

Thank you so much Anne for trusting me to look after Ridley. I had never met a Miniature Labradoodle before and was excited to meet him. I was absolutely bowled over by his cuter than cute appearance and endearing behaviour. Of course as well as being sooo cute he's a wonderful guard dog. When I open your front door he immediately goes on guard growling and barking until he sees me then suddenly his barking stops and all he wants is love - lots of it! I find it difficult to resist taking lots of pictures and videos of him at home and as we walk through the nearby woods. And of course should we met anyone on our walk they fall in love with Ridley immediately. I always find you a pleasure to deal with and look forward to going on many more walks with the ridiculously handsome Ridley!Posted on JacTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. 100% reliable. My doodle is visibly excited as soon as Derek arrives. Even if I am at home, my dog happily trots off for his walk with Derek. He’s also a fountain of knowledge and ideas. Would highly recommend.
Owner's reply
Thank you Jacqui. I can't tell you how much I look forward to going on walks with Bolt, your loving and always smiling Goldendoodle. Bolt is a peculiar dog in the nicest possible way. For instance he's the only dog I walk that bears his teeth at me when I arrive to take him out. I quickly realised that unlike other dogs that bear their teeth aggressively Bolt was mimicking me smiling at him because I am always so pleased to see him. Then after smiling at me he promptly lies on his back on your pouffe for his 5 minute massage before we set of on another quest to find people and dogs - such is his insatiable appetite for making new friends. Should a car pull up Bolt is always there waiting to greet the occupants as they get out of the car! Bolt's owner, Jacqui is a joy to deal with and as you'd expect has a great sense of humour just like Bolt!Posted on Jan WrightTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Excellent service from Derek. We got regular updates and lovely videos of our cat Minnie. Derek is caring and spends time fussing over Minnie who clearly loved it! Highly recommend.
Owner's reply
Thank you Jan for your kind words. Minnie is a really affectionate and beautiful cat and after I've fed and watered her and cleaned her litter I like nothing better than to invite her to lie on my chest and stroke her. Judging by her contented purrs she really appreciates this and I'm pleased that I can bring her some comfort whilst you're on holiday.Posted on Erica BradleyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I met Derek whilst out walking my elderly dog & it was obvious he cares a lot about dogs & is very knowledgeable. He has since taken my dog out for walks and is very reliable & trustworthy. He always sends pictures and communicates promptly. Would not hesitate to recommend him. Erica

Thank you Anka for trusting me to take Alma for walks. It's a real pleasure walking Alma. She is such a sweet natured Cocker Spaniel. And I always look forward to receiving a warm welcome from her when I arrive to take her for her walk.Posted on Helen TaylorTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Derek provides an excellent, caring service and clearly loves animals. My 2 dogs have very different walking styles and one can be dog reactive at times. Derek did an initial visit to meet the dogs and learn all about them, which was very reassuring. I felt very confident that he understood their needs and would be able to manage them in a caring and competent manner. Both dogs were very pleased to see him each morning for their walks and he sent photos and videos showing the great time they were having. I can certainly recommend him to anyone needing help with their pets!
